From Rags to ...

If there's one thing I love it's DIY projects! I never have to the time to actually do them or even complete the ones I've started. Yet I'm always spotting something to do and get busy with.

Some of my favorite DIY blogs are PS I Made This, A Pair and a Spare DIY, and various posts I find on *whispers* Tumblr.

Anyways, I just started to check what is months of piled up blog posts on Google Reader and spotted this DIY by A Pair and a Spare, which turns a pretty grandma looking dress into a cute lil' mini that looks like it came from Urban!

This looks like a pretty simple DIY to do: find a similar dress of your mothers, or get one from your local vintage or thrift store and get to doing!

For further instructions, click here.

Hey!

It's been forever since I've posted!

Honestly, this has been a really bad year for me: I was supposed to be my year! The year I graduate and start to move on to better things for my life. But nothing of that sort has been happening for me. I'm upset, tired and worn out, I don't know what I'm doing right now, and I'm not sure when things are gonna get better for me. But, why not add some sparkle to my life by blogging?!

I am back, and I am looking all over for inspiration and things to share. Stay tuned :)

It's Just Sex. No Emotions.

It seems as if there is a growing turnout of films such as Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached coming out, which play on the friends with benefits, 'it's just sex' type of lifestyle that some people live. I think this FWB lifestyle is becoming an increasingly growing phenom, with more and more men AND women not wanting to be in actual relationships. They just want someone to fuck, maybe cuddle with, and will go home afterwards. Basically no strings attached, an agreement of not seeking a relationship.

Now. I don't participate in these this type of behavior/relationship [I'm not sexually active], and even though it's my blog and I say what I want, I'm not necessarily here to condemn anyone who has FWBs. Personally, I believe that this isn't a good lifestyle. And with all these films coming out, which glorify this topic, what does it say about our culture? Is it saying that we cannot as a people deal with monogamous relationships? After look at the divorce rate in the country! What does this also possibly say us other than our love lives? Can it also say that the Americans do not believe in meaningful relationships; as in how does this play out politically and otherwise? How is it that the world views us?

Aston Mozie SS 2012

Bloggers Quinn Aston and Ugo Mozie have upgraded their style blogging talents to a luxe dinner jacket line.

I have to say that I'm impressed and like what I see.

Thanks to One Nigerian Boy for these pics.

I think the jackets look pretty good. My faves are the white with gold button, the orange, and the black. They're pretty classic. Although my one issue is the small fit look. I'm not always all for that look, it looks uncomfortable to wear, and just looks small.

All in all, good collection. I hope to see more from the AstonMozie duo.

What's better than a boob job?

Why Thai 'breast-slapping", of course!

I stumbled across this video clip in an article on DailyMail about this natural Thai beauty treatment, and I found it VERY interesting.

There are the breast-slapping, butt-slapping, and face-slapping methods, which are supposed to naturally enhance these given body areas by toning and enlarging by simply moving fat. And after a couple sessions, you'll see improvements.

Just watch the video >>>

Training course to learn this treatment will cost you a few pretty pennies, but I'm sure that getting the treatment itself will probably cost you considerably LESS than the average breast enlargement, face lift, or fat transfer.

So where can someone sign me up?!?! I definitely need her to move the fat towards my derriere. . .

What I Want is What I Need

Stumbled across this cute bracelet on Fashionlista.

It's a combo of glitz and casual with the rope and cubic zirconia. Just my kind of thing! I like glamorous things, but not always showy and flashy. And then I like to be casual most times, so this is right in my lane.

Sad thing is: it's no longer on ASOS' site : ( It'd be great to find it though.

Herve

I was going to do a brief post on the new Herve Leger lookbook, but decided against it when I realized that I didn't really like what I saw on Shopbop..

And that begs me to ask, Is Herve Leger played out????

I feel like the brand is renowned for it's body-con dresses, hugging a female's curves in just the right places.

But now, I feel like the there's plenty of knock-off, look-alike dresses in the style of Herve Leger, and the ghetto girls and those not cut for the fit of the Herve style are ruining the image.

Am I wrong to judge, or is there some truth to this? I myself have never worn Herve before, but I feel like I would have to pause myself before I were to actually step out in one of those dresses.

Opinions?

Inspiration: Decor

Since I've been attached to Tumblr lately, I've discovered the vast amount of interior design, decor, and outdoor design pictures going through my Tumblr, either by me reblog-ing or liking.

I have a fascination with this type of design, and thought I'd post some photos of things that inspire me for my future apartment and home(s)!

L'Homme Officiel

I am just loving this post on Il Etait Une Fois...

Who doesn't love an impeccably, nicely dressed man?! Seriously Milan Vukmirovic does it over and over again. His style is just way too cool.

It's no secret that I LOVE olive/military green. So this pic automatically won me over.

Click the link above for more of the picture post about Milan.

More Lady in WHITE

I've recently done bridal posts, even though I'm NOT getting married anytime soon. I wanted to continue in that especially because I saw the Marchesa Fall '11 bridal line in the Bella Naija Wedding section. Note: I enjoy this section because I like seeing how Nigerian culture is done in different people's weddings/marriage ceremonies. As well as the rest of the site featuring fashion, music and lifestyle Nigerian based!

But back to Marchesa, I think I can say that it's appealing to me more and more each time I see something Marchesa. I may not have the money for it, but I do have the eye. And I've particularly like Marchesa when I've seen Miley Cyrus wearing it. I think she also likes the label, being that she's worn a couple Marchesa dresses and gowns.

Also, Blake Lively, whom I also adore, has been spotted in Marchesa:

Anyways, continuing with the bridal theme, here's my picks from the Marchesa Bridal Fall '11 line.

FYI

Stacey Dash is OVER-RATED

I'm not hating, cuz I actually kinda like her. I mean I think she's beautiful.

But let's tell the truth. She's definitely NOT thee best actress. We hear that her attitude stinks, especially towards fellow actors. And I wish she would stop playin these 'young' characters!

She's looks great for her age, but she needs to play characters that are close to her age. C'mon, I am the only person who doesn't agree with her playin <30yr old female characters? Seriously.

And I don't know what regimen she's on, or whatever that keeps her looking so young and fresh, cuz I'll have to say that it may not be working all too well... Because her age is starting to show here and there in the face..

California Love

Last week, I went to Cali for a conference out at The Westin @ LAX.... It was actually great, and I was able to visit family in Riverside, and an uncle in East LA...

But I honestly have to say, that I have to go back!!!!!! [Originally I was sposed to stay for another week, but things didn't go as planned...] I wasn't able to do much, but just from walking outside around the Westin, I knew that L.A. is a place for me.

One thing's for sure: I was def loving the weather out there. It was sunny yet breezy. Not like our East Coast summers that are stiffling hot and humid! I was just loving that L.A. weather, even getting a bit chilly at times. Although I do have to say that I am NOT loving the Riverside heat. I almost melted when I got out the car when we got there... I'm not sure if it felt like I was back in DC or worse. And my aunt is thinking it'll be cheaper for me to live out there. She's gonna be disappointed cuz I can't fathom that type of heat. No way.

But yeah, just a little peek in my past week. Even with all the ups and downs [particularly me and my sister's 4hr delayed flight in Houston! And even missing our flight from LAX home, then having to pay $300 to be rebooked!], I enjoyed that bit of vacay I got :)

Here Comes the Bride

So I may have a bit of wedding fever. One of my friends got engaged recently, and she's planning for a May 2012 wedding! Who doesn't love weddings though?? We love them for different reasons, whether it be getting to play dress up or scouting and meeting a future husband/wife, or if you're African, you're going for the food, whether or not you know the bride or groom.

Anyways, here are some of my picks from different 2011/Spring 2012 bridal lines:

Vera Wang. If you've seen Bride Wars, you know Vera is the way to go.

Balmain Men's SS 2012

I've probably mentioned before that Balmain is one of my favorite, if not favorite, designers. I love the way that designers behind the name always give a rock n roll edge to the pieces. At least, that's for the women's line; I have never ventured to the men's line, until this week.

So! I found the Balmain SS '12 Men's lookbook on Selectism, a sister/brother site to HighSnobiety, and I was just loving the laid-backism of the collection.I took a particular liking to the jackets, which are structured and tailored quite nicely. They're dressed down in the lookbook, but I can def see them pair with a dressier outfit.

Mmmmm yes. Let me see a man wearing one of these pieces! Oh gawd!

These were some of my favorite looks:

I am loving this Lee Angel 'Dipped in Pink' necklace!

I just LOVE the vibrant pink!

Law & Order

You can't say that you haven't watched any one episodes in the Law & Order family and did not enjoy it.

I myself am a Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) fan, was an avid Law & Order watcher, and recently, caught Law & Order: L.A. (LOLA) from time to time; although I have to say, that Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which moved to USA, just didn't catch onto me.

Accessorize

As you know, tumblr has become an obsession. [BUT I can refrain! I hadn't "trolled" for like two days, till today!] But, I'm back! with a post :)

Chloe Billie tote. Damage: 1945$ on sale at Net-a-porter.

Now, I like this bag because it is versatile. I'm thinking this will go great with a casual 'fit, eg. loose tee, and cargo skinnies most likely i nmy fave color of olive. And I'm imagining it as a work bag as well, for those of us that like to take our style to work! Eg. nice khaki pantsuit, while toting your purse must-haves. It looks like it may even fit a 13" Macbook?

TheGreatWhite

It's the great White Lace Dress. At least, according to my Friday email from Who What Wear, white lace dresses have made their trend report. [This brings me back to this lovely cream lace dress (ASOS) that I found in a Lucky mag issue from either late 2010 or early 2011.. I was never able to find it, but it's saved on my phone...]

I love that they've captured the type on the runway and on some celebs:

I think a white/cream/ivory lace dress is a must-have for one's closet: there's lots of dif ways to wear em! You can be elegant or punk, girly or even just casual!

Find your perfect lace dress, and the best way(s) to wear it!

Here are a couple picks:

I honestly think that....

May 14, 2011 Recap

SO Penn State had spring commencements two weekends ago! Proud to say that some of my friends graduated and walked! Me, not this semester, if even this year. I was on the path set to graduate in December, but things didn't go well, and looks like I will be graduating with the Class of 2012 *insert tears here* It makes me really sad and disappointed with myself. Had I not chosen this wonderful major called French - Business Option, who knows, I may have just graduated one week ago!

On a happier note, here's me with my friend since fresh year, Shavon!

I truly do wish her the best of luck!

What it’s like to wear shorts when you’re fat:

  • Just one step forward and you feel your fat all over your body jiggling.
  • With every step you take, your thighs rub together, creating a burning sensation after only about 5 steps.
  • It’s as disgusting as seeing yourself naked, because all you have to do is look down and see how fat you really are.
  • With every step you take you’re but fat smacks against your thigh fat, yeah, it does hurt a little.
  • Wearing shorts when your fat decreases your confidence even more.
  • Seeing other people look good in shorts makes you hate your body more.
  • Sitting down is beyond the worst, because now all your fat is spread out and exposed to the world.
  • Barely any shorts that use to look half way decent, now look completely horrible on you, that’s IF you can get them on.
  • It is hot out. You are hot. But you can’t get cool because you want to cover up your body.
  • Now your belly fat isn’t just hanging over jeans, but now your shorts too, COME ON. And not to mention your thigh fat, poping out of the bottom part of your shorts… come on, really now?! And these shorts were BIG on you last year, now they barley zip.
  • Shorts when you’re fat means bending over while wearing them without showing the world where you stash your crack will NOT be possible
  • Tight shorts means, CAMEL TOE.
  • Tight shorts means, nothing in your pockets, NOTHING. Not even folded cash.
  • Tight shorts manage to turn a panty line into a canyon on your ass.
  • Muffin top, muffin bottom. You look like and feel like you’re a giant, puffy muffin stuffed into a pair of tight-ass shorts.
  • Walking for an hour in shorts, means having your thighs hurt from shaking and rubbing together so much.
  • You have to walk with a waddle, because your thigh fat gets in the way of walking normally.
  • You sit uncomfortably on the edge of the chair because your thigh fat will spread out if you don’t and you would end up looking like an elephant.
  • Every step you take you have to pull the shorts back down because your fat thighs keep making them ride up.
  • It’s hot out and your feeling hot because you have to stay covered up, so you can’t possibly cool down.
  • What’s usually hidden under your jeans will be exposed through shorts.
  • Chafing will be caused by that thigh fat rubbing together when you wear shorts.

This is so depressing

I don't wear shorts, and I just had to highlight points that were about me.. I guess it's the real reason why I don't wear shorts, not only because of my parents, but because I'm too fat for them. [And honestly, idk how people bigger than me can bear to put them on! If I thought I looked ridiculous, what do they look like!]

That being said, I guess I'll post what I've seen on some people twitter bio and tumblr accounts. It's embarassing.

HW 211 CW ~* LW 136 GW 160 UGW 150

I'm embarassed to say what my current weight is, but just know that my HW is really bad, and this is after I talked with my doctor about losing weight, before I even hit 200lbs! Idk what happened with me, how've I've let myself go!

And what I hate is when my friends tell me that I'm not even that big, when my parents keep reminding me every time I come home, or when one of my best friends who was bigger than me is now losing to the point that she may be a size or two smaller than me! It really makes me cry on the inside, and sometimes I just feel like being anorexic, bulimic. Because I get mad at my body, how big I am, wishing that I was skinny, was smaller....

Welp, don't be surprised if I start going in, posting stuff about being skinny, losing weight, pics of skinny people and whatnot

This is supposed to be the summer I turn my body around.

It's National Vegetarian Week!

This is new to me!

And here's my thoughts:

~ I tried giving up "meats" aka CHICKEN, since it's the main meat I eat, for Lent this year... I have to say that it was a bit hard. Hard, especially when my friends and I went to Mad Mex on late nights for half-off, and everyone else was having Los Wingos aka Mad Mex wings. Ugh!!!! Then I found out that during Lent there was a free day, Sundays, only to find out from my friend that she "lied" to me, because that only works if you're like Catholic! And this was after eating chicken on like two Sundays, I felt bad then I didn't, I guess, cause it wasn't like I just indulged on chicken and totally pigged out, cause I didn't!

~ That being said! I'm not sure if I could truly become a vegetarian! My same friend who became a veg after Lent two years ago, has gone back to eating chicken WINGS... Yeah my sister's veg, but idk... It's a whole lifestyle change I think, I'm not so sure if I'm ready for it...

~ BUT! I am willing to do it for this week! Without cheating! [Yep, in fact my dinner consisted of poached tilapia and spinach and corn. Oh and some noodles *guilty] #MeatlessMondays [I've gotta get back to that!]

And for anyone who's interested in participating, join from today till Sunday! And if you're really contemplating goin vegetarian, there's this free vegetarian/vegan starter courtesy of PETA I believe, check it here.

Happy Vegging! : D

DIY. English Feather Headpiece

So I got a couple glimpses of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and boy can you say that those English women sure do love their hats/headpieces!

Never had I seen so many head gear in my life! Ok well, scratch that, I am African, and I have been to more than a couple African weddings where head gear is limitless and outrageous at times.

But one of faves bloggers, Erica at P.S. I Made This, has a new post up! This time she made a feather headpiece, just in time for the Royal Wedding! Check it out below!

Class of 2011

So even though I will not be graduating on May 14 with the rest of my Penn State Class of 2011 peers, I'm starting to put some thought into what I'd like to wear for graduation. I graduate in December, so I've got to take that into account; don't exactly want to be wearing sandals ya know..

And I also, as always, have to take into account, the width of my feet :( [I HATE them]

I wanna go all out [a lil'] for graduation, I mean, I'm about to step into the real world once I get my degree!

BUT, regardless, here are some selections:

YSL Tribtoo 4"

Giuseppe Zanotti

I could try to pull off some Louboutins too huh? I like these ones for the occasion:

*Although I feel like Christian Louboutin shoes are always hot, but I feel like certain females are starting to give the shoe/brand a bad name. Apparently, it ain't trickin if you ain't got "Red Bottoms". Here's an example of what I mean on Necole Bitchie. In response to that little interview, there are PLENTY of cheaper shoes that I would prefer to wear of Louboutins any day.

And if I could find where I could get these Alaia's from, I think they're sold out[?], I would sooo get em.

I first spotted these on Karla from Karla's Closet, and I fell in love with them.

And also spotted on Fashion Snag:

So sexy

[To Be Continued]

photos via respective blogs and sites

Hmmmmm....

So I stumbled across someone's blog where they had a script/story going... I thought it'd be interesting to do the same, to perhaps write a "novel" or short story on my blog, and bring to you, a new portion each week!

I'm kinda excited, and I really don't know where to start. I'm really excited because, with the new excerpts of every week, who KNOWS which way the story may go!

I've tried writing in the past, always starting some storyline, but never finishing or even getting past a first chapter. I'm not sure if I have this writing thing in me, even though I didn't have much trouble with my short story from my creative writing class two years ago...

Well, I think it's a good thing to try!

Now, to come up with characters and some sort of plot...

STAY TUNED!!!!!

OneHotGhettoMess

So , the show Beverly Hills Fabulous premiered about 2 weeks ago, I think.. I've been watching, and it's not bad, but I have to say that I have not laughed as hard as I did Monday night.

Whoooo lawd, just watch the video and you'll see what I mean.

"What is you.. What is you"
"Young and pruned"

What a shame -______-
This is what my shoe collection needs to be looking like...

And then some...

But honestly, I do have alot of shoes, at home, but I don't wear them anymore... Time for an upgrade... But I believe that it's ALWAYS time for a SHOE upgrade :)

Happy Friday!!!!

Pretty Balmy over There

So I spent 2 1/2 years of college, wearing foundation everyday because I had a random acne outbreak <- WORST beauty years of my life :(

But I'm happy to say that since 2011 started, I haven't worn makeup, unless I was going out, or maybe to church. I guess you can say I'm confident in the skin I'm in, now that that ridiculous acne phase is over!

I like makeup products, and I always like to be in the know, so I def had read a little article on the new Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Foundation.

EXTRA Repair Foundation SPF 25

The new Extra Repair Foundation by Bobbi Brown is the combination of a balm and foundation. It sounds like you can almost feel your face getting greasy with the mere thought of applying this to your face, but they say that it's a foundation of smooth, lightweight texture, and is perfect for the summer. Based off of the Bobbi Brown Extra Moisturizing Balm, it locks in moisture, leaving a dewy, and even, finish. It comes in 20 shades, and is perfect for coverage as well as working as a tinted moisturizer. It is also SPF 25.

All that for the nice price of $55. Yikes may be the word for the 1oz (30ml) product, but it is supposed to last a long time, because you'll only need to apply a little at a time, with your fingers.

I'm ready to try this product for the summertime! And I'll definitely have to post my review when I get my hands on it!

Get it here or in stores!
